Korean Film Days 한국 영화의 날

Korean Movie Days is part of the International Spring program series organized by the University of Pécs as a joint program between the Korean Cultural Center and the Centre for Internationalisation and Connections.

The year of 2019 is very important for Korea because it is the 100th anniversary of the March 1st Movement and the establishment of Korea's provisional government in Shanghai, China in 1919 during Japan's 1910-45 colonial rule. Although the nationwide demonstrations failed to accomplish the goal of effecting independence, they unified the Korean people in spirit and led to the establishment of the provisional government in China which became foundation of Republic of Korea. Since the declaration of independence on 1st March in 1919, Korea had a turbulent time such as the Japanese colonial rule by 1945, the Korean War, the division of Korea into north and south, dictatorships, and democratic revolutions. Hopefully, 2019 will be a new starting line for the establishment of a permanent peace on the Korean peninsula. For peace and prosperity in united Korea, we proudly present 4 movies about our ancestors who were eager for autonomy and peace. ‘I Can Speak’ is about one of the biggest issues in Korea which we haven’t settled. ‘Anarchist from Colony’ and ’The Last Princess’ are based on real people and stories, and some characters in ‘Assassination’, the eighth-highest-grossing movie in Korean film history with over 12.7 million admissions, were real Independence activists belonging to the provisional government.

The Korean Movie Screening Days are parts of the International Spring program series organized by the University of Pécs and it is a joint program between the Korean Cultural Center and the Centre for Internationalisation and Connections.
