The Best of Friss Hús 2026 selection brings together some of the standout films of this year’s festival: short films that ranked among the strongest and most memorable works in the Friss Hús programme, and that continue their journey after the festival in independent best-of screenings across the country. In this 88-minute block, five films of strikingly different tones and worlds meet — ranging from body horror and coming-of-age drama to mystical animation, adolescent uncertainty, and tensions shaped by religion and personal identity.

Valami vad / Something Wild 22’
Director: Konrád Zsuzsanna
Zsófi occasionally turns into a bear: the huge, lumbering beast tears through the apartment, threatening her frightened parents and younger sibling, while the neighbours grow increasingly suspicious of the strange noises. When she is not a bear, however, she is simply a dreamy girl preparing for her university entrance exams.

Északi-part / Coasting 18’
Director: Csaplár Júlia
Hanna and Gáspár have been dating for a year when Hanna invites him to her family’s vacation. For the first time, she begins to sense that her relationship with Gáspár might one day come to an end — and that she does not see everything the same way her father does.

Adgwa Ata 15’
Director: Kreif Zsuzsanna
An Amazon tribe abducts three young girls by force. During a mystical initiation ritual, the girls enter a parallel dimension, where they must tame the totem animals awaiting them: enormous snakes in vivid, vibrating colours.

RIFT 8’
Directors: Fazakas Lóci, Bethlenfalvy Péter
Dani worries whether he has seen enough films to impress the girl he is dating. Meanwhile, Peti can barely pay attention, preoccupied with a problem of his own. The question is whether Dani will still have enough courage left for the next date.

Szeplőtelen / Immaculate 27’
Director: Dubinyák Réka
Sixteen-year-old Eszter realizes that she looks exactly like the Virgin Mary icon hanging on the wall. Through the barred windows of her girls’ school, she secretly watches the nearby art school at night, and when she comes across a call for models for drawing classes, she makes a bold decision.
