13. Skandináv Filmfeszivál

The Scandinavian Film Festival is being held for the thirteenth time this year, organised by Vertigo Média and Art+ Cinema. Alongside the Budapest venue, a handful of cinemas outside the capital put together their own programmes — ours runs from 24 to 27 September, eleven screenings across four days.

The biggest event of the week is Fjord: Cristian Mungiu's film won the Palme d'Or at Cannes this year, and the festival brings it to Hungarian screens for the first time — we're showing it twice. Alongside it, two Swedish directors' first features arrive ahead of their Hungarian release: Kim Sundbeck's Det grönaste gräset and Alex Schulman's Adult Supervision.

The programme also includes John Skoog's Redoubt, shot in black and white, about a man who spent the Cold War single-handedly building a shelter for his entire village; Ruben Östlund's Palme d'Or-winning satire Triangle of Sadness; and Paprika Steen's family drama Fathers & Mothers.

Finally, there is an Anders Thomas Jensen strand running through the programme: The Last Viking, Riders of Justice and Men & Chicken — three films by the same Danish director, in whose work black humour and grief always occupy the same scene.
