Worth Seeing | Sehenswert 2026

Szemrevaló | Sehenswert presents the best of contemporary German, Austrian and Swiss cinema for the fifteenth time this year — the Goethe-Institut's festival reaches Pécs alongside Budapest, Debrecen and Szeged, as it has for years, and here we host it together with the Lenau House, showing five of its films at the Apolló. The thread running through this year's selection is women who stand up for themselves in order to go their own way: Sandra Hüller won the Silver Bear at the Berlinale for the title role in Rose, which is also Austria's entry for the Academy Awards; Late Shift won four categories at the 2026 Swiss Film Awards; and the heroine of Wilma will mehr starts a new life in Vienna in her mid-forties with a toolbox in hand. Alongside them, two films about what absence and literature do to a person: Oh, This Unspeakable Void, in which Senta Berger plays the grandmother in a story that takes its title from Goethe, and You Believe in Angels, Mr. Drowak?, a black-and-white grotesque in which exactly one person signs up for a creative-writing course. Admission to every screening is 750 forints.
